The Mind Your Business Podcast

All entrepreneurs want to know the secret to success. James Wedmore, a seven-figure online entrepreneur, believes success is created by mindset over strategy, magic over metrics, and attitude over action. In this podcast, James and co-host Phoebe Mroczek untangle the common misconception that hustle and hard work are all it takes to be successful.

Denise Duffield-Thomas is the money mindset mentor for online female entrepreneurs, and the author of two best-selling books: “Lucky Bitch” and “Get Rich, Lucky Bitch.” In this episode, she shares her thoughts on manifesting money, the craziest thing she has ever manifested in her business and her 5 steps to manifesting more money in your life!

Denise shares that you don’t have to be a woman to benefit from her content, but she did write her books with women in mind as she felt women mostly needed to hear what she had to say.

She believes that some people think that more money will fix the blocks that exist in their mind, but this isn’t the case.

“What I’ve found is that most of us have one or two money blocks that are constant”

For Denise, her major money block was the idea that you have to work hard for your money. For this reason, she had four jobs at once when she was in university.

This thought has hit her at every stage of her business, and it even comes up now from time-to-time.

“It’s quicker to get out of this when you have the tools”

James told her years ago that you can’t reach 6-figures in your business without outsourcing.

“Hard-earned money is harder to let go of”

Denise says that the money block itself is usually a symptom of something else which has typically been ingrained in the mind for a long time.

“Like anything, it comes down to our stories”

Not only are our money blocks a result of what happened to us, but also it’s also what we have made it all mean.

“You can’t change the past, but only what you’ve created and the beliefs around it”

Denise shares that if you can unravel your money story, it’s a powerful lesson and it really does free you to choose something else. She says a valuable exercise you can do is to make a list of everything you remember believing about money. Look for patterns and common denominators, and the more often you do this, the shorter the list will get.

She believes strongly that money blocks will affect your use of The Law of Attraction, as you need a strong “foundation” of thoughts.

De-cluttering everything (physically, emotionally, spiritually and energetically) will help you manifest more money. Find the “path of least resistance” and start there, as the action of de-cluttering will create momentum.

“The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo is a great resource that can help you de-clutter (see “INTERVIEW LINKS”).

By changing your language and thinking of manifesting as more of “training for your brain”, it will be more effective.

“Find a way that resonates with you. You’ve got to do something, otherwise you’re just going to stay the same.”

In her first book, she tells the story of how she manifested a 6-month all-expense-paid trip around the world. To do this, she used the power of intention to win a trip as part of a promotion for a honeymoon company. To do so, she and her husband beat 10 other couples.

“There was never a doubt in my mind that we were going to win it”

She says that part of de-cluttering is just to be ready for the outcome, and to detach from it. A big part of this is being really clear and honest about what you want, and to not care exactly how you get there.

When you de-clutter, things will come to light and help you determine what you want. Denise says that some people are afraid to ask for what they want.

“Talk about your dreams. Talk them into reality.”

Denise explains that a lot of the stuff people struggle with in terms of money comes from a feeling of not being enough, which leads to thoughts of not deserving a great business or life.

Her best advice for dealing with people who judge us for stepping into the next level of abundance is to just work on yourself, and not worrying about scenarios that often aren’t even true. When we step into our power, it can often make others feel unsettled, but you can’t get business advice from what she calls, “inappropriate sources.”

“It’s OK not to share everything that happens in your life and business”

Denise’s 5 Steps To Manifesting More Money (see “INTERVIEW LINKS for her downloadable “cheat sheet”)

1. De-clutter – see above!

2. Get clear on what you want – State your goals, and make a stand for what you want.

3. Immerse yourself in the “world of possibility” - To do this, you can test drive a car you want or start looking at your dream home.

4. Take inspired action – This can be as simple as just getting a client, or sending out a group of emails.

5. Receive - Learn how to be detached, which will allow you to say “Yes” to the Universe.

Denise adds that there’s always something more you can do right now to get closer to your goals. She often reviews her own cheat sheet and goes back through the 5 steps listed here.

She admits that she’s been scared herself when moving into a more expensive home and considering new business opportunities.

“Business is scary. The things that scare you today won’t scare you tomorrow, but there’s always going to be something new to be scared of.”

For James and Phoebe, starting this podcast instilled fear in both of them.

Denise’s mantra is “It’s my time and I’m ready for the next step.”

Procrastination is normal, and she waited three whole years to release her manifestation course that she created in 2012.

Denise’s money-tracking app, and accompanying article, is a useful tool that can help you and your money blocks (see “INTERVIEW LINKS”).

If she could go back in time to any point of her life to give advice, it would be when she was 28 years old. At that time, she was at a job she didn’t enjoy and thinking that she would have been further along financially.

“I’d tell myself that I need to work on some inner stuff”

Denise concludes with this insight:

“I have this inner belief that today is my lucky day. Today can be your lucky day and you make your own luck.
