Everyone at some point will have a feeling of being stuck! In this episode, James and Phoebe explain a three-step process that you can use to get unstuck today and create the business that you envision.
Phoebe knows how being stuck can be scary, and leave your paralyzed to act. However, it really is a great place to be because you can do anything you want to from there.
James says that when things aren’t working, people usually think that the answer is to just try the same thing, but do it harder. Like the example of the fly or bee banging against the window, you can step back and look to find the opening.
“All we ever have is just a series of these present moments”
Our brain tends to focus on the past or the future, but in the present is where we really have the power. Here, we have the chance for infinite possibility, and our reality is based off of the actions that we take now.
“To get unstuck, we must be willing to create actions in this present moment that are not contingent upon or determined by the results of our past”
Tom Watson, founder of IBM, made this statement when asked what made them successful:
“For IBM to become a great company, I (realized) I would have to act like a great company long before it ever became one”
James shares that when you’re clear on the business you’re creating and the vision you have for it, use that as the “litmus test” for the decisions that you’re going to make.
“What got you here, won’t get you there”
Phoebe adds that when you’re vision is big enough, you’ll believe in yourself and your commitment to your customers.
When you use statements such as “that’s easy for you to say,” then you’re letting yourself off of hook and making excuses for why you’re not achieving results.
Three steps to get unstuck:
1) Identify your vision for the future
What is your vision; one that gets you “lit up” and excited? Determine why this vision is so important to you so that when it gets tough, you can remind yourself of why you’re doing it.
2) Write out how you or your business would operate when that vision has been fulfilled
Again, think about how a million dollar company would act and think about this when you have a decision to make.
3) Pull it into the present and operate that way now
Constantly ask yourself questions about how that company you envision would be acting, and act that way now!
